CHINA MARKET ENTRY

Walking

INTRODUCTION

No matter what business you are in, with a population of 1.4 billion, China is the biggest country in the world. Its consumer market has the potential to be larger than that of North America and Western Europe combined. With China's economy growing on a steady rate each year, it's not too early for you to market to Chinese customers NOW!

Foreign business people and academia who come to China often have too much goodwill, too much trust and too little patience. Many deals have to go through formal and informal meetings. Food, drink and informal social events are negotiating tools. Chinese business etiquette is considered as one of the deciding factors for a successful business deal. Don't mistake language ability with business or management competence. The savviest and smartest Chinese managers often don't speak English or have a Western university degree.

Rather than focusing on the whole China market, we intend to encourage Irish businesses to adopt a more focussed 'One City - One Province' China market strategy. Given the current economic challenges in Ireland, China's emerging market is being viewed as a very attractive market to Irish business and eucation institutions.
